Cathy Blodget

Experience

Cathy Blodget has over 25 years experience in the insurance industry. Her family has been in the insurance industry for over 50 years with a combined experience of over 100 years.

As a child, Cathy began helping her father at his insurance agency. His work ethic influenced her own: good customer service and empathy toward policy holders. Since her father listed his home number alongside a business number, Cathy found herself learning first hand how to defuse heightened situations and comfort clients until Dad could phone them back. Applications were written at a customers kitchen table or in their living room. During this time, successful businesses were made solid only by building strong relationships with each client. Cathy has applied this to her own business, borrowing a bit from the past to bring comfort to her modern day clientele. She still visits her customer’s homes to write and review policies, and she answers her cell phone 24/7. This provides great peace of mind for her customers, something that is rare among agents.

Passion

To give unparalleled customer service to educate my customers so they can make the insurance decisions/choice that is right for them.

A FEW STORIES

Coverage options... I had the opportunity to help a customer who was insured with California Fair plan which does not include liability.  I was able to correctly insure this single mom, educate her on her coverage and save her over $2400 a year.  My job as an insurance agent is to educate my clients so they can make the right decisions for themselves, once they have the knowledge then they have the power to adequately protect themselves.

One mistake...

I had an appointment with a 73 year old gentleman the other day and his story really brought home the meaning of “whats enough” for automobile liability insurance.  Three years ago he made an illegal lane change and noticed an accident in his rear view mirror but since there was no contact between the cars he continued exiting the fwy off ramp.  The traffic was heavy, it was to difficult to turn back, his wife mentioned stopping but the traffic on the fwy exit was very hectic.  He heard the sirens and knew that the other car was going to be taken care of so he continued on home.  The driver of the other car was seriously injured but the passenger was thrown through the windshield and killed.  This 73 year old gentleman was tracked down and cited for vehicular manslaughter.  He was now in my office to buy insurance so he could get his suspended license reinstated.  He told me what a terrible 3 years it had been.  He not only lost his license, he has suffered with the thought that he caused another person’s death.  His eyes filled with tears and he told me that he lost his wife…the emotional and financial stress was too much.   This gentleman worked his whole life for retirement years to share with his wife and now because of not having enough liability insurance he lost most everything he worked to aquire but worst of all he lost his wife of 53 years due to the emotional stress caused by such huge financial loss.  No one likes to spend their money on insurance, it isn’t a “fun” thing to purchase but be sure you have spent the little extra it takes to buy enough to cover your assets.  One mistake can take it all away.

"Sue happy" culture...

We love our children and pets but often times they cause the largest liability exposure.  Our dogs can nip and our cats scratch…you can be sued for these offenses.  Your child can accidentially hurt another child and you are sued.  My son at age 3 was wandering around another group of children who were playing baseball and a child swung a bat which hit my child in the face knocking out several teeth and splitting his mouth and cheek wide open.  That son is 27 years old and still carries the scar on his face.  I’m not a “sue happy” person but I’ve seen claims with very high payouts for much less.  Example:  A few years after that incident my son who was about 7 at the time swung a bat and hit another child above the eye on the forehead.  The child cried but no skin was broken and I felt terrible.  The parent sued me and my homeowners policy paid out, but what some people don’t know is that when the child reaches age 18 they can sue again.  What price do we put on a life or disability or the ability to earn an income. We all need to have sufficient liability.

Kids and pets...

Another claim…A woman walking on the sidewalk and a homeowner’s dog barked at the woman (the dog never left the yard) but the bark startled the woman and she stumbled…the homeowners policy paid out.  A client has a sign on the gate “beware of dog” a guest enters the back yard the dog bites the guest and does lots of damage to her face and we paid out the limits of the policy 1 million dollars.  Child pulls a toy away from a dog….you know the rest……..we paid out. Children in the back yard playing, cat jumps over the fence, child picks the cat up and the cat scratches and the parent sue.  Child is at school and pushes another child down, the parents say “we are going to sue you”.  The homeowners policy protects your assets.
